Trip Overview: 8 Days Tanzania Lodge Safari

8 Days Tanzania Lodge safari to Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Lake Eyasi, Tarangire and Serengeti National parks focus on exploring the great outdoors and getting close to the indigenous wildlife of the Tanzania northern circuit safari; search for African Big 5, more than 700species of bird life and the great wildebeest migration among many spectacular wildlife trail.

Tanzania's wilderness responds to the iconic reverie of an African safari. Big cats chase thousands of zebra, 100-strong elephant herds roam past ancient baobabs, and surreal scenes play out in view of your lodge balcony. Don't just think Big Five, think of the entire wildlife experience.

Our routes have been carefully chosen to include the best night stops and highlights. However, as local and operational conditions may vary and unforeseen circumstances can arise, the following itinerary should be used as a guideline

Day 0: Arrive in Tanzania:

You’ll be met by our ground handling team at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to the delightful Ahadi Lodge. Relax in your thatched cottage, savor the enchanting views of Mount Meru, and unwind on the private verandah. Located just outside the vibrant town of Arusha, and set in its own tropical gardens, the lodge provides a gentle introduction to the natural beauty of Tanzania.

Overnight: Ahadi Lodge or Iboru safari Lodge.

Meals Plan: Dinner and Break Fast.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park:

In the morning you will be picked from your hotel and after an approximate 2 hour drive you will arrive at the Tarangire National Park. Giant baobab trees, bush Savannah and the seasonal marshes add to the wonder of this nature reserve. The Tarangire National Park is considered as one of the best places to view elephants up close, not only because there are thousands of animals but also because they are not disturbed by the presence of vehicles. The park is also home to buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests which are always closely followed by a range of predators such as lions. Leopards are seen now and then but cheetahs are rarely spotted. From the open roof of the safari vehicle you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the animals. In the late afternoon you will drive to your accommodation Inside the Park.

Overnight: Tarangire Safari lodge or Sopa Lodges Meals Plan: Full Board.

Day 2: Tarangire Area– Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast you will travel from the Tarangire Area to the Lake Manyara National Park. The park is famous for its tree climbing lions as well  known for its over 400 bird species, primate-filled forests and grassy plains. A large area of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, the seasonal breeding grounds for large colonies of flamingos and many more waterfowls. The park is also home to giraffes, hippos, impalas and groups of noisy monkeys and baboons. After an extensive game drive you will travel to the, where you will spend the night.

Overnight: Ngorongoro farm House or Kirurumu Manyara Lodge/ Meals Plan: Full Board.

Day 3: Lake Manayara - Serengeti National Park

Non-game-viewing travel time: 6 hours
Distance: 205 km

After early breakfast, we head towards the Serengeti National Park via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We head to the central park area (known as the Seronera area) one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park and featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. We arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti national park.

Overnight: Serengeti Savannah Camps or Halisi Camps

Meals Plan: Breakfast, Lunch Box or Hot lunch, Dinner.

Day 4:  Full Day at Serengeti National Park

If you choose, today be one of only a few fortunate people to glide in a hot air balloon over the Serengeti Plains (available at supplementary cost by pre-arrangement). Float silently above the awakening bush, across rivers and over numerous small villages, while spotting wildlife and enjoying the amazing scenery of Africa.

We do an after breakfast full day game drive with lunch at the lodge. We will follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes, which usually attracts a number of lion and some formidably large cobras. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops, scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink!

Overnight: Serengeti Savannah Camps or Halisi Camps/Meals Plan: Full Board.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro conservation Area

Early morning game drives at Serengeti. After late breakfast will proceed to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and go for an afternoon a Nature Walk (depending on weather conditions). Escorted by a ranger or Maasai Guide you follow animal paths through dense. North-East of the Ngorongoro Crater lies the Empakaai Crater, Empakaai is about 6000m wide and 300m high.

Among other animals, you will see buffalo, bushbuck, a variety of antelope and blue monkeys. Birds are in abundance. A deep soda lake covers a large part of the crater floor. There is a track to the crater-floor and one around the rim of the crater. On a nice, clear day, one can see Mt. Oldonyo Lengai, Lake Natron and Mt. Kilimanjaro. The scenery is left to your imagination!! You will walk around the crater take some picture of the beauty crater with stunning views. There after you will ascend to the top where you will meet your driver and drive back to the Hotel.

Overnight: Ngorongoro Sopa lodge or Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge /Meals Plan: Full Board.

Day 6: Full Day at Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we descend 600m into this magnificent crater for a full-day game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals, including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro National Park supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its huge population of predators such as lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard. We will enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor then we proceed with game drive until late where we will drive out of crater and  Drive to Lake Eyasi for Dinner and overnight.

Overnight: Tindiga Tented Lodge/ Meals Plan: Breakfast, Lunch Box or Hot lunch, Dinner.

Day 7: Bushmen Tour in Lake Eyasi

Indigenous tribes are slowly disappearing across Africa and very few remain in Tanzania. Hudzabe Bushmen live around Lake Eyasi, continuing ancient practices that compel and enthrall. Early morning we depart to the village for local hunting experience with Hudzabe and Datoga tribes. This is not a mere performance. The Bushmen rely on these techniques to survive and you’ll need to be very attentive and at times quiet, while they demonstrate their use of locally made poisons in incapacitating the poor creatures on which they depend for survival. We return to the Tindiga Tented Lodge for a late breakfast

After breakfast we will drive to the shores of Lake Eyasi. We arrive in time for lunch at the Tindiga Tented lodge. Lake Eyasi is a very scenic soda lake found on the southern border of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This less visited lake lies at the base of the Eyasi escarpment on the western rift valley wall. This afternoon you will be introduced to the extraordinary people who belong to an indigenous tribe known as the ‘Hudzabe’ (hunter-gatherer Bushmen). The tribe inhabits the shores of Lake Eyasi as do the Nilotic-speaking Datoga tribe. You will visit these tribes, which will include a visit to their homesteads, learn about their way of life, animal tracking, medicinal plants, and much more. Some wildlife and a wide range of bird species can be viewed during walks around the lake, which can be arranged.

Overnight: Tindiga Tented Lodge/ Meals Plan: Breakfast, Lunch Box or Hot lunch, Dinner.
