10 Days Tanzania Motorbike Safari Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Meet and greet from Dahlia Africa staffs, from JRO airport you will be taken to the lodge for a refreshing, in the evening you will meet the bikes for personal adjustment and trial. If flying with Qatar airways the plan will be well blend. In the evening we will take you to Arusha famous street for a dinner BBQ (vegetarian meals also available).On this evening we will give briefing for the next day activities. After dinner we will take you around for a drink if interested but if much tired we will return you to the lodge for a rest of the night.

Day 2: Arusha to Maasai Steppe

After breakfast at around 8:00am, you will meet our chief guide and give you a clear briefing on what to do and expect on the day and the whole tour in general. He will also introduce you to the rest of the crew for greetings and getting to know each other. You will then inspect your motorcycles and protective gears and see if they fit you comfortably. At around 9:00am you will start your ride from the Hotel to Dukabovu where you will divert the tarmac road and start riding off road through the Maasai villages of Lolkisale, Naberera, Namalulu and Orkesumet. It is a complete semi desert experience, tribal men walking and performs their daily activities with interaction of wild animals around them. The Maasai Steppe Conservancy is located between the Tarangire National Park and the Simanjiro Plains, within the Northern Safari Circuit. Safaris in the Maasai Steppe provide a wonderfully varied experience for people wanting a combination of wildlife viewing, walking, and authentic, ‘un-canned’ cultural experiences with the Maasai. The Maasai Steppe is a vibrant and important ecological strong- hold for the wildlife and people of northern Tanzania. Nearly 92%of these critical ecosystems are designed Maasai village lands where livestock husbandry represents the primary livelihood. Maintaining healthy rangelands is critical to both the Maasai people and the wildlife dependent on this arid environment.

Day 3: Maasai Steppe to West Usambara Mountains

Usambara mountains are part of the forest-capped ancient crystalline mountains of Eastern Tanzania and South East Kenya popularly referred to as “the Estern Arc”. During the colonial period, Germans discovered the charms of the Usambara’s and they established Lushoto (Wilhelmsthal, in those days) and it was a favored holiday spot for colonial administrators. As of today, you still can find many traces of Germany times.

This day morning you will start your ride through the Maasai Steppe conservancy to the small townships of Hedaru and Mombo where you will make several minutes stops to interact with the locals (marvelous experience when the tour falls on market days). Your ride goes on up hills along the Usambara Mountains falling to Mkomazi National Park. The ride will be tricky as it goes up hills and very sharp corners with some parts rocky and loose gravels.

Day 4: Full day Lushoto Highlands

This full day stay at Lushoto Highlands will give you an opportunity to rest your muscles because there will be only 64kms of ride from Irente View Cliff Lodge to Mambo View Point Eco Lodge through several local villages of the Wasambaa (local tribe). The Mambo View point is located just at the top of Mkomazi National Park and therefore while at this point you will have a very clear view of the park and the townships of Mombo and Hedaru.

Day 5: Lushoto Highlands to Pare Mountains.

After breakfast we explore through the range of Usambara Mountains through the local villages of Rangwi and Manolo to palm forests then ride down to the southern ranges and will be no tarmac roads at all. The trail goes through virgin savannah down to Lake Kalimawe which is surrounded by rice plantations and small villages. The ride continues adjacent to the area of Mkomazi National Park on the slopes. After a while, you will start exploring the Pare Mountains and local Pare villages of Gonja and Visiwani before arriving to Same. This is a big day of riding and all of us will be tired at the end of this adventure and we will surely deserve a cold beer and a rest. The motel at Same has spectacular views of the South Pare Mountains and because of its location it is the ideal gateway to/from Mkomazi National Park, the South Pare Mountains and Shengena Forest.

Day 6: Pare Mountains to Lake Chala

After breakfast at Same Motel, we leave heading uphill’s to Pare Mountains with a nice view of the small towns/villages down hills. The trail goes up through the Pare mountains and through the local villages  of Mgagao, Usangi and Kambi ya Simba where you will have your lunch break before carring on with your ride Lake Chala. This trail will take you along the boundaries of Lake Jipe along the Tanzania – Kenya border. Arrive at your hotel for late evening rest along the shores of Lake Chala and have a natural swim in the lake.

Day 7: Lake Chala to West Kilimanjaro

This day will be an awesome day since the ride will be from the Windward side of Mount Kilimanjaro to the leeward side of it. Two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo will be visible in the morning and evening. This is also a chance to pass over different Chagga people whom are regarded as the typical conservators of Mount Kilimanjaro. On this day we will take picnic lunch, and if we’re lucky we might be able to see mountain primates such as black and white Colum- bus monkeys and blue monkeys on the forest reserve. The ride will pass over earth road and newly tarmacked roads, the distance will be 140km and we will be arrived at Maasai Lodge for dinner. The camp is situated in between Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru. You will have an awesome view of both old volcanic mountains.

Day 8: West Kilimanjaro to Lake Natron (Via Longido)

On this day, we will ride on the typical African roads; dust, sand and gravel up to the small town of Longido. This is an adventure ride on a very dusty trail way down into a huge gorge where resident wildebeest, zebras, giraffes and antelopes gather for grazing land and water. The last 50 km in this leg is a sandy and stony track cut in the rift.

While here, we are going to visit the largest soda ash lake, Lake Natron, Engare Sero waterfalls and views of Oldonyo Lengai. We will experience the Maasai culture, traditions and customs. Meals will be prepared in native way with high hygienic standards and Maasai warriors will give us a dance while enjoying the local barbeque prepared by the Maasai warriors.

Day 9: Lake Natron to Sonjo Plains

Located about 40 miles/64km west of Lake Natron, The Sonjo are a Bantu speaking people. About 30,000 Sonjo live in northern Tanzania in the Ngorongoro district, riding to their area you will get chance to know better about this less Known indigenous tribe of Tanzania, who have lived there for centuries isolated within Maasai territory. You will learn astonishing culture about Sonjo tribe, their gender roles, role of Music as well as their clothing.

Day 10: Lake Natron to Arusha through Longido/Monduli to Airport

This ride can be taken on hardcore route of Monduli or an easier route of Longido. We ride through rolling country with scrub and scattered thorn trees and we will see colorful Maasai herding their cows and goats. We may also see antelope and zebra, and if we are lucky perhaps a predator. We will ride on loose gravel and a little sand which is fun and later find a well maintained dirt road which leads us to Longido village where we meet tarmac and ride through tarmac to Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha.

  • Distance on Motorbike: 1,460kms/ 907miles distance will be covered on this tour (roughly 80% of this distance will be off-road).
  • Experience: Suitable for all skilled bikers who like a couple of long riding days, but you don’t need experience on un-tarred roads. No hard off-road riding involved. Most roads you’ll ride around 60 – 100 km/hour. The itinerary is planned in such a way that you have plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent scenery. You’ll encounter wildlife and indigenous people to learn their culture most of the days.
  • Motorbike Types & Model: Honda CRF250L – 2013.
  • Suitability: Very suitable for riders with a pillion; if you want to skip a day on the backseat you can ride with the backup vehicle.
  • Accommodation and Meal: Most of our accommodations facilities have hot showers, swimming pool, Bar, Wi-Fi and laundry services. Three meals are included as indicated at each day with B (breakfast), L (lunch) and/or D (dinner). Special evening events (like evenings with local Maasai BBQ) are also included as per the itinerary.

10 Days Tanzania Motorbike Safari Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Meet and greet from Dahlia Africa staffs, from JRO airport you will be taken to the lodge for a refreshing, in the evening you will meet the bikes for personal adjustment and trial. If flying with Qatar airways the plan will be well blend. In the evening we will take you to Arusha famous street for a dinner BBQ (vegetarian meals also available).On this evening we will give briefing for the next day activities. After dinner we will take you around for a drink if interested but if much tired we will return you to the lodge for a rest of the night.

Day 2: Arusha to Maasai Steppe

After breakfast at around 8:00am, you will meet our chief guide and give you a clear briefing on what to do and expect on the day and the whole tour in general. He will also introduce you to the rest of the crew for greetings and getting to know each other. You will then inspect your motorcycles and protective gears and see if they fit you comfortably. At around 9:00am you will start your ride from the Hotel to Dukabovu where you will divert the tarmac road and start riding off road through the Maasai villages of Lolkisale, Naberera, Namalulu and Orkesumet. It is a complete semi desert experience, tribal men walking and performs their daily activities with interaction of wild animals around them. The Maasai Steppe Conservancy is located between the Tarangire National Park and the Simanjiro Plains, within the Northern Safari Circuit. Safaris in the Maasai Steppe provide a wonderfully varied experience for people wanting a combination of wildlife viewing, walking, and authentic, ‘un-canned’ cultural experiences with the Maasai. The Maasai Steppe is a vibrant and important ecological strong- hold for the wildlife and people of northern Tanzania. Nearly 92%of these critical ecosystems are designed Maasai village lands where livestock husbandry represents the primary livelihood. Day 3: Maasai Steppe to West Usambara Mountains

Usambara mountains are part of the forest-capped ancient crystalline mountains of Eastern Tanzania and South East Kenya popularly referred to as “the Estern Arc”. During the colonial period, Germans discovered the charms of the Usambara’s and they established Lushoto (Wilhelmsthal, in those days) and it was a favored holiday spot for colonial administrators. As of today, you still can find many traces of Germany times.

This day morning you will start your ride through the Maasai Steppe conservancy to the small townships of Hedaru and Mombo where you will make several minutes stops to interact with the locals (marvelous experience when the tour falls on market days). Your ride goes on up hills along the Usambara Mountains falling to Mkomazi National Park. The ride will be tricky as it goes up hills and very sharp corners with some parts rocky and loose gravels.

Day 4: Full day Lushoto Highlands

This full day stay at Lushoto Highlands will give you an opportunity to rest your muscles because there will be only 64kms of ride from Irente View Cliff Lodge to Mambo View Point Eco Lodge through several local villages of the Wasambaa (local tribe). The Mambo View point is located just at the top of Mkomazi National Park and therefore while at this point you will have a very clear view of the park and the townships of Mombo and Hedaru.

Day 5: Lushoto Highlands to Pare Mountains.

After breakfast we explore through the range of Usambara Mountains through the local villages of Rangwi and Manolo to palm forests then ride down to the southern ranges and will be no tarmac roads at all. The trail goes through virgin savannah down to Lake Kalimawe which is surrounded by rice plantations and small villages. The ride continues adjacent to the area of Mkomazi National Park on the slopes. After a while, you will start exploring the Pare Mountains and local Pare villages of Gonja and Visiwani before arriving to Same. This is a big day of riding and all of us will be tired at the end of this adventure and we will surely deserve a cold beer and a rest. The motel at Same has spectacular views of the South Pare Mountains and because of its location it is the ideal gateway to/from Mkomazi National Park, the South Pare Mountains and Shengena Forest.

Day 6: Pare Mountains to Lake Chala

After breakfast at Same Motel, we leave heading uphill’s to Pare Mountains with a nice view of the small towns/villages down hills. The trail goes up through the Pare mountains and through the local villages  of Mgagao, Usangi and Kambi ya Simba where you will have your lunch break before carring on with your ride Lake Chala. This trail will take you along the boundaries of Lake Jipe along the Tanzania – Kenya border. Arrive at your hotel for late evening rest along the shores of Lake Chala and have a natural swim in the lake.

This is also a chance to pass over different Chagga people whom are regarded as the typical conservators of Mount Kilimanjaro. On this day we will take picnic lunch, and if we’re lucky we might be able to see mountain primates such as black and white Colum- bus monkeys and blue monkeys on the forest reserve. The ride will pass over earth road and newly tarmacked roads, the distance will be 140km and we will be arrived at Maasai Lodge for dinner. The camp is situated in between Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru. You will have an awesome view of both old volcanic mountains.

Day 8: West Kilimanjaro to Lake Natron (Via Longido)

On this day, we will ride on the typical African roads; dust, sand and gravel up to the small town of Longido. This is an adventure ride on a very dusty trail way down into a huge gorge where resident wildebeest, zebras, giraffes and antelopes gather for grazing land and water. The last 50 km in this leg is a sandy and stony track cut in the rift.

While here, we are going to visit the largest soda ash lake, Lake Natron, Engare Sero waterfalls and views of Oldonyo Lengai. We will experience the Maasai culture, traditions and customs. Meals will be prepared in native way with high hygienic standards and Maasai warriors will give us a dance while enjoying the local barbeque prepared by the Maasai warriors.

You will learn astonishing culture about Sonjo tribe, their gender roles, role of Music as well as their clothing.

We will ride on loose gravel and a little sand which is fun and later find a well maintained dirt road which leads us to Longido village where we meet tarmac and ride through tarmac to Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha.

  • Distance on Motorbike: 1,460kms/ 907miles distance will be covered on this tour (roughly 80% of this distance will be off-road).
  • Experience: Suitable for all skilled bikers who like a couple of long riding days, but you don’t need experience on un-tarred roads. No hard off-road riding involved. Most roads you’ll ride around 60 – 100 km/hour. The itinerary is planned in such a way that you have plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent scenery. You’ll encounter wildlife and indigenous people to learn their culture most of the days.

  • Suitability: Very suitable for riders with a pillion; if you want to skip a day on the backseat you can ride with the backup vehicle.

Important information's to know

  • Distance on Motorbike: 1,460kms/ 907miles distance will be covered on this tour (roughly 80% of this distance will be off-road).
  • Experience: Suitable for all skilled bikers who like a couple of long riding days, but you don’t need experience on un-tarred roads. No hard off-road riding involved. Most roads you’ll ride around 60 – 100 km/hour. The itinerary is planned in such a way that you have plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent scenery. You’ll encounter wildlife and indigenous people to learn their culture most of the days.
  • Motorbike Types & Model: Honda CRF250L – 2013.
  • Suitability: Very suitable for riders with a pillion; if you want to skip a day on the backseat you can ride with the backup vehicle.
  • Accommodation and Meal: Most of our accommodations facilities have hot showers, swimming pool, Bar, Wi-Fi and laundry services. Three meals are included as indicated at each day with B (breakfast), L (lunch) and/or D (dinner). Special evening events (like evenings with local Maasai BBQ) are also included as per the itinerary.

10 Days Tanzania Motorbike Safari Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Meet and greet from Dahlia Africa staffs, from JRO airport you will be taken to the lodge for a refreshing, in the evening you will meet the bikes for personal adjustment and trial. If flying with Qatar airways the plan will be well blend. In the evening we will take you to Arusha famous street for a dinner BBQ (vegetarian meals also available).On this evening we will give briefing for the next day activities. After dinner we will take you around for a drink if interested but if much tired we will return you to the lodge for a rest of the night.

Day 2: Arusha to Maasai Steppe

After breakfast at around 8:00am, you will meet our chief guide and give you a clear briefing on what to do and expect on the day and the whole tour in general. He will also introduce you to the rest of the crew for greetings and getting to know each other. You will then inspect your motorcycles and protective gears and see if they fit you comfortably. At around 9:00am you will start your ride from the Hotel to Dukabovu where you will divert the tarmac road and start riding off road through the Maasai villages of Lolkisale, Naberera, Namalulu and Orkesumet. It is a complete semi desert experience, tribal men walking and performs their daily activities with interaction of wild animals around them. The Maasai Steppe Conservancy is located between the Tarangire National Park and the Simanjiro Plains, within the Northern Safari Circuit. Safaris in the Maasai Steppe provide a wonderfully varied experience for people wanting a combination of wildlife viewing, walking, and authentic, ‘un-canned’ cultural experiences with the Maasai. The Maasai Steppe is a vibrant and important ecological strong- hold for the wildlife and people of northern Tanzania. Nearly 92%of these critical ecosystems are designed Maasai village lands where livestock husbandry represents the primary livelihood. Maintaining healthy rangelands is critical to both the Maasai people and the wildlife dependent on this arid environment.

Day 3: Maasai Steppe to West Usambara Mountains

Usambara mountains are part of the forest-capped ancient crystalline mountains of Eastern Tanzania and South East Kenya popularly referred to as “the Estern Arc”. During the colonial period, Germans discovered the charms of the Usambara’s and they established Lushoto (Wilhelmsthal, in those days) and it was a favored holiday spot for colonial administrators. As of today, you still can find many traces of Germany times.

This day morning you will start your ride through the Maasai Steppe conservancy to the small townships of Hedaru and Mombo where you will make several minutes stops to interact with the locals (marvelous experience when the tour falls on market days). Your ride goes on up hills along the Usambara Mountains falling to Mkomazi National Park. The ride will be tricky as it goes up hills and very sharp corners with some parts rocky and loose gravels.

Day 4: Full day Lushoto Highlands

This full day stay at Lushoto Highlands will give you an opportunity to rest your muscles because there will be only 64kms of ride from Irente View Cliff Lodge to Mambo View Point Eco Lodge through several local villages of the Wasambaa (local tribe). The Mambo View point is located just at the top of Mkomazi National Park and therefore while at this point you will have a very clear view of the park and the townships of Mombo and Hedaru.

  • Travel duration: 7 hours.
  • Terrain: Dirt road, gravels, sharp corners, forestry and steep trails.

Day 5: Lushoto Highlands to Pare Mountains.

After breakfast we explore through the range of Usambara Mountains through the local villages of Rangwi and Manolo to palm forests then ride down to the southern ranges and will be no tarmac roads at all. The trail goes through virgin savannah down to Lake Kalimawe which is surrounded by rice plantations and small villages. The ride continues adjacent to the area of Mkomazi National Park on the slopes. After a while, you will start exploring the Pare Mountains and local Pare villages of Gonja and Visiwani before arriving to Same. This is a big day of riding and all of us will be tired at the end of this adventure and we will surely deserve a cold beer and a rest. The motel at Same has spectacular views of the South Pare Mountains and because of its location it is the ideal gateway to/from Mkomazi National Park, the South Pare Mountains and Shengena Forest.

Day 6: Pare Mountains to Lake Chala

After breakfast at Same Motel, we leave heading uphill’s to Pare Mountains with a nice view of the small towns/villages down hills. The trail goes up through the Pare mountains and through the local villages  of Mgagao, Usangi and Kambi ya Simba where you will have your lunch break before carring on with your ride Lake Chala. This trail will take you along the boundaries of Lake Jipe along the Tanzania – Kenya border. Arrive at your hotel for late evening rest along the shores of Lake Chala and have a natural swim in the lake.

  • Terrain: Dirt road, up-and-down hills + 6Kms of tarmac.

Day 7: Lake Chala to West Kilimanjaro

This day will be an awesome day since the ride will be from the Windward side of Mount Kilimanjaro to the leeward side of it. Two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo will be visible in the morning and evening. This is also a chance to pass over different Chagga people whom are regarded as the typical conservators of Mount Kilimanjaro. On this day we will take picnic lunch, and if we’re lucky we might be able to see mountain primates such as black and white Colum- bus monkeys and blue monkeys on the forest reserve. The ride will pass over earth road and newly tarmacked roads, the distance will be 140km and we will be arrived at Maasai Lodge for dinner. The camp is situated in between Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru. You will have an awesome view of both old volcanic mountains.

Day 8: West Kilimanjaro to Lake Natron (Via Longido)

On this day, we will ride on the typical African roads; dust, sand and gravel up to the small town of Longido. This is an adventure ride on a very dusty trail way down into a huge gorge where resident wildebeest, zebras, giraffes and antelopes gather for grazing land and water. The last 50 km in this leg is a sandy and stony track cut in the rift.

While here, we are going to visit the largest soda ash lake, Lake Natron, Engare Sero waterfalls and views of Oldonyo Lengai. We will experience the Maasai culture, traditions and customs. Meals will be prepared in native way with high hygienic standards and Maasai warriors will give us a dance while enjoying the local barbeque prepared by the Maasai warriors.

Day 9: Lake Natron to Sonjo Plains

Located about 40 miles/64km west of Lake Natron, The Sonjo are a Bantu speaking people. About 30,000 Sonjo live in northern Tanzania in the Ngorongoro district, riding to their area you will get chance to know better about this less Known indigenous tribe of Tanzania, who have lived there for centuries isolated within Maasai territory. You will learn astonishing culture about Sonjo tribe, their gender roles, role of Music as well as their clothing.

Day 10: Lake Natron to Arusha through Longido/Monduli to Airport

This ride can be taken on hardcore route of Monduli or an easier route of Longido. We ride through rolling country with scrub and scattered thorn trees and we will see colorful Maasai herding their cows and goats. We may also see antelope and zebra, and if we are lucky perhaps a predator. We will ride on loose gravel and a little sand which is fun and later find a well maintained dirt road which leads us to Longido village where we meet tarmac and ride through tarmac to Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha.
